Whisky is distilled from fermented grain mash and is aged in wooden casks. Grains are used for producing different varieties of whisky are barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and maize.

Types of whisky

Scotch whisky -
Scotch whisky is generally distilled twice, though some are distilled a third time.

Types of Scotch Whisky -
* Malt Whisky is whisky made entirely from malted barley and distilled in an onion-shaped pot still.
* Grain Whisky is made from malted and unmalted barley along with other grains.
* Blended Whiskies are the cheaper whiskies made from a mixture of Malt and Grain whiskies

American whisky -
It includes both straights and blends. Straights are aged in oak casks for at least two years.
Bourbon another variety of whisky has between 51% and 79% maize.

Irish whisky -
Irish whisky is generally distilled three times and must be aged in wooden casks for a period of not
less than three years.

Indian whisky -
Indian whisky is mostly distilled from fermented molasses. Popular manufacturers of Indian whisky are
United Breweries and Amrut Distilleries.
